It's pretty nice out.

I should be out there doing yard work, but I don't want to. I'm tired from work. I mean, it isn't even the fun kind of yard work, like, using a lawnmower, or hedge-trimmer, or leaf-blower. We cut down a bunch of volunteers on Monday, and now they have to be sectioned and bagged. It's a boring and exhausting activity. I'd salt the entire garden whilst laughing maniacally if it weren't for Mom's lilac trees.

Also there's a family of cardinals nesting in the shrubs. I kind of like cardinals, but I really like the merlin across the alley. Merlies are raptors. I want raptors. They keep the population of disgusting rats and squirrels down. Presumably merlins will prey also on cardinals in a pinch. And so one wants to preserve the cardinals, lest the merly-bird move on. (Man. Boo's 'Viva Pinata' experience at last becomes relevant to his real life.)

No tropical storm after all. I was hoping we'd catch just a bit of the western side of it to cool things off. Still, better hot than what's going to happen to Louisiana, for sure.

Does "skeeters" count as weather?

IT IS VEGETABLE SOUP OUTSIDE. IF I TOOK OFF MY SHIRT AND WALKED OUTSIDE IT WOULD TURN INTO BEEF BARLEY. Seriously, even the wind is like a dog breathing at you.

finally the downpour of all downpours is happening. all that disgusting humidity is falling from the skies. it is magical. probably the craziest thunderstorm i've seen in ten years last night. i've gotten like 5 flash flood warnings in the past 8 hours. all my windows are open and it is one sleepy little morning.

It's finally sunny but not murderous. A pleasant 77 deg F. We had some really awful heat and humidity this weekend that resulted in a major but brief storm on Monday. I had just missed it while driving. I happened to be driving back home when it JUST passed over. When I arrived, my hometown looked like a war zone. Apparently lots of places lost power. Giant, massive trees were uprooted. Flooded areas. The streets were littered with all manners of plants and trees. Some garbage. I was like "Sweet Jesus." My house luckily still has power. Most people at my job still don't and they also lost running water. We actually have a small shower in one of the bathrooms here and my co-worker has been taking showers there.

I think I got a bit of heat rash blistering recently. Cool front came in and brought things down to a high of 90 today. I'll take it.

After the short heat wave and subsequent storm, I am now able to keep my apartment at a comfortable temperature. I hope it stays like this a while.

I learned that birds keep their mouths open constantly on days like that because they can't sweat.

Had about a week of 100 degree plus days. Think the high topped out at 99 yesterday and looks like 95 today. Yay cool front.
