I tried to get the SNES I got for Christmas set up yesterday, but it turns out I don't have the AV cables. :(

Also, top.

Sounds like your SNES has a critical defect to it. It'll probably combust within the next 24 hours unless you send it to me.

I wonder how long all these old consoles and games have left before they become defective. I know some systems have different shelf lives due to manufacturing differences so some are already defective.

i always thought it was based more on how often they're used and what kind of conditions they're kept in

I forgot which system I heard about in specific, but there was a significant common issue which is pretty much inevitable to encounter with it. I just guessed "CD-i" and there seem to be some common issues with it, though they don't seem too bad. I'm sure many systems have their own unique problems.

EDIT: It was TurboExpress that I was thinking of which had a defect:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboExpress
Due to a problem with cheap capacitors (an industry-wide issue in the early 1990s), sound failure is a frequent problem with the TurboExpress, sometimes even in new systems.

Even if consoles totally break or becomes completely defective, there'll be someone out there willing to restore them, just like old cars.

For playing retro games, I'm setting up a retropie. Anyone else here try that?

Also hey M_K! Long time no see!

Alright lately. The main thing in my life is dealing with withdrawal from a long-term amphetamine habit and depression and I've been almost incapable of taking interest in anything or doing many basic tasks for months. Generally on an upward slope at this point and I'm optimistic, just trying to hang around watching anime and stuff while waiting for my brain to recover.
Wow, congratulations on quitting. That's a big deal, keep moving forward!

I haven't but it seems like a good way to play them. Let us know how it goes. Also, good job on your recovery.

^ 192-bit systems are pretty weak by today's standards.
