THOSE TEMPLATES...Nintendoland, Grand Adventures, such good memories.
Anyway, without getting too sentimental about it, it's crazy to think about all the time that's passed and even though I'm woefully absent a lot of the time, VGF's meant a hell of a lot to me over the years. I consider many of you good friends.
...but man, I remember being an obnoxious 12 year old at times.
P.S. - Is ********** still censored?
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY you visited!!!! *gives you marshmallows* I'm so happy to see you. *giant hugs* Stay awhile...
These are my memories...
In 1998, something amazing happened; Shane started a site based around video games and started to gather like-minded people around him. Forums were born, leaders were appointed and people from across the globe flocked to join. The years have passed, some were deliriously happy, others fraught with hardships and one year filled the memories with a deep sadness when we lost Knux. But as the world keeps spinning, and the internet keeps adapting, there's been a small spot tucked away that's a constant - VGF… those of us still forging bonds have become a tight community of people who care and look out for each other. And we welcome new members to our little bit of heaven on Earth like no other place can!
From the beginnings:
Member #1 – Admin 5
Member #2 – Shane
By the end of April (only a week after Shane 'joined'), approximately 75 other people had joined. Few of those posted or became an active user, but over the following year, many others joined and the forums burst into activity. As did the site's main page.
The front page was filled with video game news, reviews and previews. You could find cheats to all the games which were submitted to CheatCity and you could easily navigate to one of the very active forums.
With affiliates needing forums, people "found" VGF through many sites. From memory, we had The Grand Adventures
and probably many other affiliates 'directing' traffic to VGF.
From such simple beginnings, our current statistics are: more than 21,000 members (as of writing this), more than 1,498,000 posts in more than 77,000 threads!!!
Time to remember the Staff...
I remember all the Admins before me and many of the Mods.
A list of Staff (not necessarily in order):
Shane (Admin since 1999)
Saria Dragon (Admin since 2004)
Heroine of the Dragon (Admin since 2005)
I am nobody
The Missing Link
Former staff leaders:
Tritoch (former Admin)
WEAPON (former Admin)
Lurch (former Admin)
Perrin Aybara (former Admin)
Bolt the Dragoon
Link the Survivor
Rubber Band Man
Ryu the Iron Warrior
Sean P Kelly
The Luigi Man
Gaaaahhhh so many of those people I have had the pleasure to interact with.
That's a lot of people who have volunteered their time to help out at VGF over the years. If I forgot someone, confused your pdn with someone else or just messed up, please excuse me… I did not do it intentionally. (Let me know if I forgot anyone so I can add their pdn in.)
So yeah, I have lots more stuff saved on old floppies but I don't know if they are still readable... things like lots of battles from the Battlefield, lots of TPAM stuff and threads/posts made for me. It is a very nostalgic trip to look through the ones I can access and to think about all the people who have been a part of my life here at VGF.
Eh. The Report forum used to bemuse me. And the RE forum was terrifying to a faerie. hahahaha I loved hanging out in the Zelda forum when I first joined and was ecstatic to discover VGF was so many more forums. I remember how uncertain we all were when VGF had The Crash... and I am sincerely glad that Shane cared to bring VGF back.
Back in the early 2000's, I collected a bunch of Bios. I still have them all and I have all the pictures and information saved from my "Memory Book", as well. I also recall the election I ran in to become the Misc Mod, the Mod forum thread about the election *grins* and the moment I discovered I was an Admin and how scared I was to click on the Admin things to begin with. I have wondered if any of the other Mods recall their own appointments.
Need tea. And chocolate.
More rambles later...
