Sonic 2 vs Sonic CD

Post by Artemis008 » Thu Jul 13, 2017 12:51 am

Both were developed at the same time, on opposite sides of the world. Which game comes out on top? You decide!

I'm gonna have to go with Sonic CD, between the save feature, time attack, sound track, and awesome level design I absolutely love this game. That doesn't mean 2 is bad, it just feels a little dated compared to CD.

That's tough. I really like both, though they've very different games.

Oooo. That is tough. I actually feel like reliving Sonic CD just to figure out an answer.

I mean. . .it DOES have that song Sonic Boom. Now the video game of the same name ruined that title. But I always loved that song.

Screw it - I'll go with Sonic CD.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles is the best, but this is just for 2 and CD. Why? They were at one point the same game, but after low sonic 2 sales in Japan they said screw it and made it into a whole new game. Sonic 2 was developed at Sega technical institute while Sonic CD was developed by Sega of Japan.

The levels don't give you much space to run, so it is pretty difficult.

I literally just got a Genesis with Sega CD last week, ans Sonic CD literally came to me in the mail this morning.

I'll have an opinion soon. Probably.

Sonic CD's level design is inferior imo, and it doesn't excel by enough in other areas to compensate for that. Sonic 2 wins for sure.

^Agreed. The levels in CD are intensely visually distracting; there's all kinds of paths right nest to each other that just have me wondering how it's even possible to hit them all.

And remember, "I'm-a Luigi, number one!"

It seems something got **** up on the site transition and the poll is now Sonic CD vs Sonic CD. Will fixing this reset the poll?

I was going to vote, but I am having trouble deciding.

I always liked Sonic 2. Can't say I remember enough about Sonic CD to objectively say it was better.

It won't let me change it back to Sonic 2, do I just need to do a new poll?

I could not figure out a simple way to change it. After screwing around, I somehow finally got it to say the two correct options, but apparently not possible without deleting all votes.

Yeah, plus DZ brought up the issues with the implementation of time travel. I think CD would've benefited from more testing, it's kinda rough. I still like it more than most modern 2D Sonic games but that's not saying much, I guess.

I never really had any issues with the level design. With the exception of Metallic Madness, I felt like they were all fairly designed and rightfully challenging.

Although I ignored the time travel mechanic, that thing just downright sucked. It's a neat idea, but the levels weren't built to compliment the mechanic. Thankfully, they can be safely ignored in favor of the special stages.

Did the poll reset or something after the forum changed? I just realized I had to vote again.

EDIT: nvm got my answer.

Yeah I wanna play Sonic CD now. I never actually got the true ending or something. Always got the bad one where the Death Egg reappeared. Something like that.

It's more fun to ignore the good ending, tbh. It slows down the game to a crawl, and Super Sonic isn't available anyway.
