Bad translation in games.

We all know that a lot of older games have bad translation from Japanese to English. So, what are some such games?

There are bad translations, and then there is Pokemon VietCrystal:

I definitely wouldn't know anything about where to get it, of course, but it's some of the best unintentional comedy ever created. Bad machine translation must never die.

This has actually become a "Good bad translation" - the translation was so memorable that they kept it into future translations.

Once upon a time, Zany Video Game Quotes put out an iteration of 'Romeo and Juliet' composed entirely of horribly-translated game quotes.

It don't exist no more (I wish it did)----------all I could find is this here.

From the first Persona game, when Dork-I mean Masao/Mark was race-lifted, we got this line:

Which remained in the PSP remake.

(Is Castlevania: Symphony of the Night's "What is a man?" a bad translation or just awful writing? I can't actually find out for sure. . .)

I haven't played the game, but assuming those speeches are accurate, there's almost nothing in common between the English and Japanese versions.

As charming and nostalgic as Ted Woolsey localizations are for me, I have to admit that Chrono Trigger and FFVI have some serious issues. For instance, as much as I miss Frog's medieval schtick in later translations, it was really all over the place.

"Lower thine guard and thou'rt allowing the enemy in." Great line, but not the right use of "thine." Et cetera

^ There were some spelling errors, too. Overall it's pretty good though.

"You now prosess Dracula's rib" Castlevania never had great translations, but it was particularly problematic with the puzzle solving and such.

Also any body remember "I FEEL ASLEEP" from Metal Gear NES.

WHAT A TERRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE

I've actually considered playing the ROMhack of Simon's Quest that adds clearer signposting and fixes problematic dialogue. Haven't gotten around to it, though.

I've played it, if you want a really awesome experience get the re translation, the anti invisible blocks patch, the faster day/night cycle, and the sram hack.
