I'm listening to Piece of Mind. My favourite Maiden album. 'Where Eagles Dare' is awesome. 'Flight of Icarus' is real good, nevermind it sounds maybe a bit too much like 'Let It Ride' (BTO did it better-------------has to be said)(...wouldn't mind hearin a mashup, come to that). 'Die With Your Boots On' is sick. 'Trooper' has already been talked about to death------------suffice it to say I love it (that galloping beat has such a hit, man).

Bachman-Turner Overdrive---------'Let it Ride'

...what a good song. What a good band. I need to take a second runner at classic rock, man.

Imagine Dragons------------'Thunder'

...man, but this thing stinks. The arrangement is so spare---------like, a spare arrangement can work really well if the singer is good and the hook is strong, but this is half-assed. Also the tacked-on tweaked vocal samples are incredibly annoying.

Pitbull------------'I Know You Want Me'

...this thing has like five different choruses, and it does them all before each verse. It's off-balance, man. The chorus:verse ratio should be around 1:1.

Why, why must it be so catchy. I mean, I should rightly despise this song. It's flatly moronic. And yet here I am, listening to this doofus rap in generic non-English. Watching ethnic ladies struttin their stuff. (EDIT:...okay, that's part of why I'm here. I'll watch ladies in a state of dishabille writhe about to most anything.)

KoRn (feat. Nas) - Play Me

I'm going through KoRn's discog for my blog right now and it's been rough. I really don't care for this band. At least they have a song with the greatest rapper of all time to make things tolerable here.

^...man...I mean, why not take on a more fun band? Like, have you done Aerosmith, yet? Aerosmith had two distinct periods of pretty dang good music before they went to seed. Or, like, how about Queen, or David Bowie? Are you deliberately tryin to hurt yourself, here?

Like, I know you're a music critic and all, but...why not try to give yourself a break, sometimes? I'm listening to Master of Puppets right now, and it isn't because I'm interested in breakin new ground--------------it's because I love Master of Puppets. 'Orion' is the tits, dude.

^ the series is specifically about #1 alternative albums, so i can't just skip korn unfortunately. told myself going into it that the korns and the nickelbacks of the world would be just as part of the series as the radioheads and bon ivers

Japandroids - The House That Heaven Built

The more time passes the more it's abundantly clear that Japandroids are one of the most important indie rock artists of the past decade and how especially great Celebration Rock is. Like Pitchfork and the like really getting behind a band like them and Cymbals Eat Guitars really paved the way for them to cover more pop-punk and power-pop-tinged emo and punk acts.

I mean...at least take it easy on yourself.

Like when's the last time you watched the music video for 'Dragula'? That's a pure delight. Sprinkle in some fun stuff, homey. Do right by you----------nobody should just be sat there going 'ugh' for hours.

I'm gonna go watch 'Dragula' right now, and I encourage everyone who reads this to go do the same. 'Dragula' is fun.
