Operation Euphrates Shield has begun attacking ISIS in Al Bab, which is probably the third biggest city ISIS controls after Mosul and Ar Raqqah.

The Euphrates Shield forces (Turks and FSA, this particular advance won't have support from the US-led international coalition battling to defeat the Islamic Statebecause it was "independently" launched by Turkey) started attacking ISIS in Al Bab, then the Kurds started advancing towards the city from their territory through ISIS territory East of Al Bab. Now there are reports Syrian Army is preparing to advance on the city from the south. Might be lots of there for a while.

Euphrates Shield has been shelling Al Bab for weeks, and has now started advancing on the city.

Away from their losing battles in Mosul and Al Bab, ISIS has started making a swift push into Assad's territory right about inbetween Damascus and Aleppo. Don't think Assad was expecting that.

The Pentagon says Iraq's Golden Division is suffering a 50% casualty rate in Mosul. Iraq is winning the fight in Mosul, but those losses could have serious consequences to the stability of the country.

The Russian ambassador to Turkey had been assassinated. The shooter was saying "Remember Aleppo! Remember Syria!"

Iraqi forces have begun phase 2 of the Mosul operation. They liberated 40 neighborhoods from ISIS in phase 1. That livemap is lighting up with reports of clashes.

Russia announced a ceasefire between Syrian forces and opposition groups (besides ISIS).

Turkey had requested air support for their fight in Al Bab, but coalition forces had not provided them because Turkey advanced to Al Bab independently, and not on behalf of the coalition. Some reports of Russian air support in Al Bab today.

The Iraqi forces have taken Mosul University, and have nearly taken all of Mosul east of the Tigris River. The last two weeks have been really productive there.

Not much progress in Syria towards taking Al Bab recently, but the Kurds have been capturing a lot of ISIS controlled villages in the countryside near Raqqa.

Euphrates Shield forces have entered Al Bab again in a new push to capture it. Russian backed Assad forces have been capturing ISIS territory south of Al Bab.

Despite the Turkish Army’s advance in Al-Bab today, the Tiger Forces have continued to push north towards the city; however, whether or not they will enter it is still unknown.

It took a long time, but Euphrates Shield forces have taken Al Bab from ISIS.

Iraqis have been very active in southern Mosul and have nearly recaptured the airport.

Euphrates shield forces have cleared out all the ISIS between them and Syrian Army territory. Erdogan's next target is the SDF held Manbij. Not sure how that will play out, in terms of diplomacy with the other players in the conflict.

The Syrian Army had recaptured the ancient city of Palmyra with Russian support.

A couple of weeks ago, drone footage showed damage ISIS had done to the old Roman amphitheater there.

Assad recently used chemical weapons in an attack on Syrian rebel controlled territory. The US has responded with an attack on a Syrian airbase, which is reported to be the first direct action we've taken against Assad.

no better way to get people who hate you to "rally around" you and say you're "cracking down" and "tough" than bombing some brown people
and that's the waaaaaaaaaay the news goes
