New Games in 2018
I know its a bit early to be talking about new games this year but there's been a couple good ones already and the year has only just started.
Subnautica recently had its full release last month. Think of it as a survival game based on a planet covered completely by ocean. You crash landed on this planet and you need to figure out whats going on the planet and some way to escape. Its kind of interesting for these survival/base building games even though there has been so many of them lately.
I recently discovered another game called Celeste. I dont know much about it but from what I saw on a stream and from the steam description it seems almost like a newer Super Meat Boy. It is a narrative-driven, single player platformer much like Super Meat Boy and it has a bunch of collectibles to collect along with a whole lot of challenging levels to defeat after the main story is completed. People are already practicing speed runs for it so its quickly becoming popular.
So what do you think of the year so far? If there is any more games you discovered this year that is interesting feel free to post your impressions on them and if you played them what experiences you had with them.

'Indivisible' looks great. The Game Grumps played a beta of it a few years back, and it seemed like a real good game. Something like 'Dust', one of my favouritest games ever. It's due out this year, homey, and I want it.

I just looked it up and found out the creators of Skullgirls worked on it. That alone has got me a bit interested.

Celeste is phenomenal, for what it’s worth. It’s so good. I’ve been meaning to post my thoughts on it over in the “Review the Last Game You Finished” thread.

Re: New Games in 2018
Dragon Ball FighterZ is the only new game I've played so far, I think. It is good but I'd prefer if it was 1v1 than 3v3. If you count Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition as new, then that as well (Ryu is still trash and so the game itself still is too).
I'm looking forward to Shovel Knight: King of Cards, it's probably the next "new" game I'll play. I'll possibly look into trying SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy but idk.

Celeste, Subnautica, and Iconoclasts are all great. I've posted about them in the thread ML mentioned.
I've also played Full Metal Furies, which is a Castle Crashers-esque brawler by the people that did Rogue Legacy and is as good as it sounds.

^^A new SNK Gal Fighters, huh?
...I love SNK. I love their fighting games, all of them. I loved the original 'Gal Fighters'. I love their cast of characters. I wonder if I love it enough to invest in a second console. This could be my deal-maker, man. Like, I've seriously never wanted a Switch or PS4 more than I do at this moment. It's so tempting. Who doesn't want to see that lovable goofball Yuri Sakazaki all fully realised in current-gen 3D, man. She's the best ever.

Re: New Games in 2018
I am surprised someone mentioned Iconoclasts. I heard that game took years to make cause it was a solo work but the buzz for it has been relatively low from what I have seen. Its probably a story for another topic but sometimes I wish indie games like that on steam had a much easier way to advertise since theres so much crap on steam nowadays you have to actively look for the good games sometimes.

Re: New Games in 2018
I mean, I definitely fall in to the category of actively looking for good games, but all of the sites I follow reviewed it and gave coverage prior to launch, and it's actually got 8 more reviews on OpenCritic than Subnautica. Steamspy pegs its sales as comparable to Celeste and Full Metal Furies in the 20-30k range, but I have no idea what any of them did on other platforms.
Not that I disagree about Steam needing to do better on the indie front. I doubt that's going to change until someone finally makes a real competitor, though - Valve have repeatedly demonstrated that they can't be bothered with any solution that requires any effort on their part. As much as I'm glad to have gotten Steam refunds out of that laziness, I'm sure it's killed more than a few deserving games.

Re: New Games in 2018
I wasn't aware there was another SNK game like Heroines. Yeah, SNK is great, probably the most consistent developer ever, I appreciate that. Square, Konami, and Capcom could learn a thing or two from them.Booyakasha wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2018 4:51 pm^^A new SNK Gal Fighters, huh?

Switch is cool, you should look into that over a PS4 imo. It's not objectively better but it's a bit more interesting.

Re: New Games in 2018
I appreciate the advice, friend.
Feel like One-plus-Switch is slightly the better option than One-plus-PS4. Come to that, I could wish I'd neverminded the One to start with. It's kind of the Dreamcast of this gen, isn't it. The obvious loser, despite a few really good ideas and some unavoidably excellent exclusives.

Re: New Games in 2018
Dreamcast may be a tad generous, I'd say maybe the Saturn of this generation if I were to be a pointlessly picky contrarian about it.

I mean the One has been underwhelming but comparing it to the Saturn seems like a bit much.
Though I dunno if I'd compare it to the Greatest Console of All Time, the Dreamcast either

Re: New Games in 2018
The first half of the year is looking pretty quiet for me so far. Just DBFZ and two ports. (DMC HD and Tropical Freeze) Kirby Star Allies is a maybe-buy, but the timing is a bit whack. Later in the year there's MM11 as a must-buy and the PC version of Monster Hunter World as a maybe-buy. I don't know what there will be beyond those games.

I dunno, a good portion of XBO's library is also on PC. If we're just counting home consoles sure, but otherwise, what good exclusives does XBO have really.

Re: New Games in 2018
The only exclusives of any quality I'm aware of are Sunset Overdrive, whatever the last Halo game was, and Lucky's Tale. If there's more than that, they're very stealthy.

So I've started 'Celeste'. I like it a lot.
I'm not actually good at it, but I like it a lot.

Re: New Games in 2018
I'm waiting for Valkyria Chronicles 4, Spider-Man and Ghost of Tsushima. Though Ghost of Tsushima probably won't be coming out this year.
