Silversun Pickups - Tapedeck
This album was an underappreciated gem and I'm baffled by the middling critical response. Consensus seems to be that an emphasis on diverse instrumentation hurt the band but that couldn't be further from the truth and a more regressive way to criticize music. This album further evolved Silversun's fuzzed out hooks into massive dream pop full of great writing and vocal work. Brian Aubert is one of my favorite vocalists and he really uses his range here. What, are the critics pissed they can't keep comparing it to Smashing Pumpkins?

Israel Kamakawiwo'ole--------------'Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Wonderful World'
...if I never hear this twee no-balls pathetic worthless piece of crap again it'll be too soon. Ugh. I hate it. All I need is about one second of this sappy ukulele jam and I literally want to die.
All my stupid little cousins have it at their weddings. This and that dang Mark Knopfler song from 'Princess Bride'. I'm tired of hearing this garbage, dude. I've frankly had a bellyfull. It sets my teeth on edge. No goldang originality at all, these kids.
Hey, you know what'd be an interesting change-of-pace piece of music for your wedding? Metallica------'Orion'. Or Mountain Goats------'No Children'. Or The Immortals------'Sub-Zero---Chinese Ninja Warrior'. Or how about Elton John------'Crocodile Rock'? That'd be fun. Or how about just going all in and having 'B.O.B.' for your wedding anthem. Why the heck not, you dummies.
(EDIT: Swears removed. Swearing is for dweebs.)

Megadeth - Holy Wars (The Punishment Due)
I may or may not have incorrectly hated Megadeth for many years. I think Havok helped me see the brilliance in their music a little more clearly, as well as the rest of the late 80s thrash guys. Havok feels like a sorta Shovel Knight for thrash fans, a band that hails back to a lot of classic bands while still feeling new. It makes those classics feel that much more set in stone. The intricate and ballsy riffs and compositions this band put forth set them apart and I'm actually sorry I couldn't see past Mustaine' s sometimes grating personality to see that.

'Popular'----------Kristin Chenoweth, c/o "Wicked" cast recording
...man, but this thing is good. I like musicals, and this song is kind of perfect. The melody is nice, musically interesting; Chenoweth is excellent, alternating between chirping away and belting it out as the moment requires; and the lyrics...boy, but they're up there with "1776" or "Annie". Great showtune, homey.
