Wow. As close as the race was in the polls, I wasn't expecting this to be the outcome.

Yeah. Republican turnout ended up being down, and the margin of victory was smaller than the write-in portion of the vote.

If making up sex accusations against your opponent really does win elections, expect US politics to get a *lot* dirtier from now on...
Why is it drug addicts and computer afficionados are both called users?

I mean, if you want to absolutely obliterate the credibility of rape accusations then sure. It'll work for all of one month on someone with the money to sue your ass.

Man, I laughed at Trump when he said he could bring people together on the campaign trail, but the last 11 months have really proved me wrong.

I would be surprised if he lasts more than 3 years, but he could be a very useful weapon at voting against the wishes of Alabama voters. That's democracy. You get what you vote for (or don't vote for as the case may be).
Moore is being as silly as Jill Stein talking about a recount.

I have no doubt that Alabama will turn red again in 2020. Nice win though.

Didn't expect someone here to be in the "all the accusers are liars" camp.
I voted for Doug Jones and am extremely happy.

There was the one fake one sent by Project Veritas that accidentally proved WaPo approaches these things with journalistic rigor.

Exactly. People don't understand the lengths professional journalists go to verify that they have accurate information. That's why it's a big deal when major, respectable news outlets make errors. All eyes are on them. Smaller outlets aren't susceptible to that kind of scrutiny.

I may not be the biggest fan when it comes to the current state of news media, but I draw the line at falsifying a rape charge to spring a trap.
There's a lot of people that tend to believe accusers a little too readily when it comes to sexual assault, especially woman on man, but A) A lot of people getting accused so far are immediately going "Yep, I did it but" which is a horrible defense if you actually didn't do anything. And of course B) YOU'RE NOT HELPING BY MAKING FALSE RAPE CHARGES. Sex crimes are hard enough to prove and abused successfully enough without you getting involved. The only end state I can see for this is ruining the avenues that got Harvey Weinstein in trouble and even I don't have enough faith in any legal system to believe he'd get punished for anything, much less rape. I don't like it, but if it works that's how things are going to be, especially with sex crimes being hard to prove in the same way murder was, like, eighty years ago.
Roy should have stepped down, and the fact that he didn't is his mistake to deal with now. I hope Doug Jones does what is best for his state and not his party. The same I wish for any politician.

Lately the verification process in 38% of stories seems to be "Did you just say Trump and Russia in the same sentence?" They can be mad all they want about the phrase fake news backfiring, but it all comes down to being so obvious about having an agenda.

I think you're both being a little pedantic. Not that I necessarily want a "Trump and Russia" debate in a topic about Alabama Senators, but what can ya' do?
