The world is really giving me Breath of the Wild vibes. I love how each new iteration is becoming more open world, which has always been the direction I hoped Pokemon would go in.

and yes sword boi is da best

Also I just realized I never actually beat Sun or Moon. I should probably go do that maybe.

Personally, I haven't been excited for a new region game since I played Diamond (and I didn't even finish that), but this one has me curious. Maybe it's because I haven't played any of the "new" games since then (I did play HeartGold, Alpha Sapphire, and Let's Go Eevee, which are all remakes) and gotten burned out on the formula.

I never beat US, nor have I done the UB stuff in Moon. I've been trying to get through it!

So, it seems that you can only transfer Pokemon in the Galar dex to Sword/Shield. So if say Lickitung isn't in the dex it has to stay in Home and the previous games. This has generated a lot of controversy so I was wondering what you guys thought about it. I'm not really a 'living Dex' kind of guy so I'm not actually personally bothered by it, but I do find it to be a bit of a questionable decision. Certainly reminds me of the GSC->RS days though!

Weird. What's the point of releasing a new type of Pokemon Box if you can lock some Pokemon out of the latest gen?

If there's another that makes use of all that, then maybe it'd be alright. As it is, it just seems like they just aren't going to program in anything but what they need and leave it there.

Galar Dex only is dumb and bad. I want to do a run of Sword with just the Slakoth I named after VGF members after playing it normally, and now I can't know if that's possible until Slakoth is confirmed to be in the Galar Dex

y'know, I thought that that was one of the reasons they put gens 1 and 2 on the 3DS, to finally allow transfer to other gens via the Bank. I figured RSE would probably come to the Switch for the same reason (since you currently have to use both gen 4 and gen 5 and both a DS and a 3DS to get a single Pokemon from RSE to the Bank), but if not all Pokemon will be transferable to future gens, I guess The Pokemon Company doesn't have a reason to care about ease of transfer anymore.

I can understand why some people are upset about the limited dex. I feel like this limitation was bound to happen at some point with the ever growing number of Pokémon.

the Galar Dex only thing might just be temporary, but that's not how the translator at the treehouse live made it sound. but that could have been a mistranslation or maybe some context couldn't be translated. i don't know, but i just hope it isn't permanent

Every Pokémon game ever has limited you to a regional Pokédex until you beat the game. I think people are overreacting, because this has been the pattern of Pokémon since Gen II. Then you unlock the National dex after the Elite 4.

In the context of a Treehouse presentation, they’re focusing on the base game. The National Dex will be unlocked down the line, don’t worry.

I'm not so sure I even mind the limited pokedex. I wouldn't mind wiping the slate clean and having an alternate pokeverse either.

All I know is I really wanna play this.

Yeah, I'm totally fine with the limitation. There are so ding dang many Pokemon that tbh I've never even filled out the National Dex.

Squeege is pretty stoked about the game, too. He hasn't played since Black.

I have no idea why people are making such a stink about this. The whole point of a new installment is the new Pokémon..... do you really want every single Generic Bird coming at you on Route 1 when you’re just trying to catch a new Pokémon you haven’t seen before...?

I’m as stoked as anyone to see Milotic being majestic on the overworld but that said if the new gen didn’t have a feebas I would get over it because THATS WHAT RSE AND ORAS ARE FOR........,,

^I think the problem is twofold

1. People misinterpreting “limited Pokédex” as a permanent thing that won’t be lifted in the endgame like it always is; a problem compounded by

2. PoGO-ers getting back into the series for the first time since 1998 and not really understanding why they won’t be able to bring their entire collection into Sw/Sh on Day 1

And I should clarify, I welcome any Pokémon fan back to the fold, that wasn’t meant to invalidate PoGO players by any means. But they are missing like 20 years of context when they jump back in.

^The limited Pokedex isn't what Masuda said, or at least, it isn't what the translator said. The reasons given for it were competitive balance and inability to model such a large amount of Pokemon, which both seem to imply that certain Pokemon won't exist in the game's data at all (at least at launch)
